You have to book to get a lunch or dinner spot at the Hook Line and Sinker Restaurant in Pringle Bay, and once you have been there, you’ll know why.
Firstly, you are drawn into the blue painted building by the casual décor of rough wooden tables and benches; the assuring scribbles of previous guests all over the wall and ceiling; the wood fire blazing and the welcome from owners, ex deep-sea diver, Stefan Kruger, and his wife Jacqi.
Secondly, the setting is close to the sea, and a walk along the beautiful Pringle Bay Beach before or after the meal is soul food.
Thirdly, there is the famous, fresh, food. The day’s small menu is chalked onto a blackboard, and all the ingredients whether steak or fish are really fresh – the fish is bought from their own wet fish shop. The hand-picked fresh line fish is prepared by Stefan and Jacqui, and cooked over the open wood fire, which is not only interesting to watch but works up the appetite. Homemade sauces or salsas accompany the main meal and add freshly baked bread, salad and a choice of rice or chips and you’ve got the recipe for a memorable meal – one to bring you back again and again! Specialities like oysters, crayfish and perlemoen may be available in season, and you can request them on booking.
Only twenty six diners can be seated and the restaurant hosts only one lunch and one dinner seating, to allow the owners to spend time with the guests.
