Residents urged to use water sparingly
The City of Tshwane has observed that, since the beginning of September 2017, water consumption has increased drastically, resulting in high water demand. This high water usage has now resulted in Rand Water putting strict measures in place to ensure that the allowable existing water abstraction limit from the Vaal dam is not exceeded.
In light of this high usage, Rand Water, the utility supplying water to, among others, Tshwane municipality, has begun to restrict their meters that provide water to various reservoirs throughout the City. Last Friday, on September 15, some areas were restricted due to the drastic increase in water consumption. The said areas included:
- Louwlardia
- Rooihuiskraal
- Kosmosdal
- Blair Atholl
- Bakenkop
- Soshanguve
- Mabopane
- Kruisfontein
- Ga-Rankuwa Industrial
- Ga-Rankuwa
- Rosslyn North and
- Akasia.
Other areas which experienced restrictions, that were effected by the City on their reservoirs due to high consumption, are the following:
- Akasia
- Bakenkop
- Grootfontein
- Queenswood
- Magaliesberg
- Hercules
- Atteridgeville LL
- Soshanguve LL
- Annlin
- Carina Street East
- Klipfontein
- Temba
The above-mentioned areas were restricted following the detection of below 40% water levels in the reservoirs. Limiting water supply was done to safeguard as well as ensure that there is a continued control and supply of water to all residents.
Residents are reminded that in terms of the partial restrictions that the City announced in May this year, households are not allowed to irrigate gardens with a hosepipe or sprinkler between 11h00 and 16h00. The restrictions are applicable throughout the year, regardless of the season we are in.
As we approach another weekend and beyond, all consumers are again urged to conserve water by using it wisely and sparingly.
