Replacement of Clubview and Hennopspark water reticulation
The MMC for Infrastructure, Cllr Darryl Moss, handed over a project site to a contractor on Thursday, 16 February 2017 to mark the start of the replacement of the water reticulation network for Region 4, particularly Clubview and Hennopspark.
This is desperately needed due to the dolomitic geology and the possibility of sinkholes forming when water pipes leak in the area.
The water reticulation network pipes in Clubview and Hennopspark are 75 mm asbestos cement pipes that were installed in the 1980s. The purpose of this project is to replace the most critical sections of the existing water reticulation network, which have deteriorated to such an extent that they have become unserviceable.
Pipes in Clubview will be replaced at the following locations:
- Lyttelton Road between Von Willigh and Leyden Avenue
- Leyden Avenue between Lyttelton and Durham Road
Pipes will be replaced in Hennopspark at the following locations:
- Maroela Road between Olive and Acacia Road
- Tambotie Road between Olive and Acacia Road
- Acacia Road between Olive and Maroela Road
The project scope includes the installation of about 3 500 m of HDPE water pipes and the replacement of all valves, communication pipes and water meters, if required.
“The appointment of our contractor – Homes 2000 (Pty) Ltd – is for a duration of six months and the schedule is currently to start with the Clubview portion and then continue with Hennopspark. This water project must be completed by August this year,” said Moss during the meeting.
After the meeting, there was a site visit by MMC Moss, the City of Tshwane team, the contractor, ward councillors and the project manager. “There’s absolutely no need for residents to worry – all paving, concrete and road surfaces damaged during this water project construction will be repaired,” concluded Moss.
