City encourages public to bring optometrist certificates
Following a spate of break-ins and theft at the Waltloo, Akasia and Centurion Licensing Centres in recent weeks, the City of Tshwane, in its quest to improve service delivery, is encouraging the public to bring along an optometrist certificate when applying for the renewal of a driving licence.
It has been proven that visiting an optometrist in advance and presenting the certificate during licence renewal process reduces the time spent at the data capturing desk by between 60-65%. These screen tests by optometrists, which are accepted by all licensing Centres within the city, are offered free of charge. The certificate may not be older than three months..
Applicants are also informed that the Centurion License Centre has re-instated the driving licence card renewal service for a maximum of 100 applicants per day.
On Tuesday, July 4 2017, equipment and eNatis screens were stolen from the Centurion Licensing Centre which prompted the city to shut the centre down to allow the South African Police Service to conduct an investigation without hindrances.
In another incident, the Watloo Licensing Centre was robbed on June1 2017, and seven live-capturing computers used for eye testing and thumb imprints were stolen. The same Licensing Centre was robbed again on June 20 2017. During the robbery, security personnel and officials of the City were assaulted by the assailants. The robbers escorted a security guard to a safe and stole an undisclosed amount of money.
The public is reminded that for driving licence testing or related services, they may visit any other operational centre even if it’s outside the boundaries of the City of Tshwane. The City is working hard to expedite the processes to ensure that all services are fully restored at the affected centres.
