Mariamman Temple, Pretoria
Built in 1905, the Mariamman Temple is the oldest Hindu temple in Pretoria.
Located in the suburb of Marabastad, also commonly called Asiatic Bazaar, the temple is dedicated to and named after the South Indian Hindu goddess of Mariamman.
According to the religion of Hinduism, Mariamman is the Goddess of disease and rain. Some other notable temples named after Mariamman include the Sri Mariamman temple in Singapore, as well as in Indonesia, Germany and Fiji.
The Maraimman Temple lies at the entrance of Marabastad in 6th Street, close to the business district of Pretoria, the University of Pretoria, Loftus Versfeld stadium and many popular tourist attractions.
The temple signifies the importance of the Indian community which became integrated into areas of Marabastad, and is a popular tourist attraction among local and international tourists.
Although all services are open the greater public, the temple also occasionally do private ceremonies.

Getting There:
When heading north on the N1, take exit 145 toward M2/Pretoria. Merge onto the N4, then turn right onto Steve Biko Street (old Beatrix Street). Turn left at the 3rd cross street onto Johannes Ramokhoase Street (old Proes Street) and then left onto Es’kia Mphahlele Drive (old D.F.Malan Drive). Take the 1st right onto WF Nkomo Street (old Church Street), and after about 10km turn left onto Masopha Street. Take a sharp right onto Makhaza Street, then the 1st left onto Mpilele Mthombeni Street. Continue, then turn into 6th street on your right.
