Irene Country Club
The Irene Country Club is situated in Centurion near Pretoria in Gauteng Province, South Africa.
The club was founded in 1912 when a nine hole course was established and then extended to eighteen in 1922.
The course was recently redesigned by Phil Jacobs Design to bring it into the modern world of golfing today. The philosophy was to blend the layout into the natural terrain rather than to force a particular design onto the surroundings. “We work hard at ensuring that the end product will significantly improve the environment in the form of vegetation, wetlands or lakes,” says Phil Jacobs.
The main emphasis is that the course is fun to play with challenges being created by the bunkers and green complexes – and to make use of the topography and prevailing winds to make holes play longer than they may appear. The design team has fulfilled their mandate to create a course that will ensure that your golfing experience will be constantly changing and exciting.
