We, the spectators at the gallery, saw “a world beyond time and space on a two dimensional plane inviting contemplation,” as the Assistant Dean of the Arts faculty Dr Nalini Moodley so eloquently put it.
The photographic exhibition featured many genres of photography, each with their own individual beauty which we gazed at appreciating the simple creativity and composition. All the exhibitors are outstanding students with distinctions in photography. The photography students were awarded certificates for their hard work on the night of the opening.
“I love documenting through photography, smiling or dying, it is the truth of how we live…
Tiaan Meyer, one of the students exhibiting whose image is that of an Indian man playing drums said, “I love how visuals can tell a story.” Another exhibitor, Nomsa Mtsweni whose class assignment was to take a picture of an object took one of a simple chair without anything on it to capture its personality. “I love documenting through photography, smiling or dying, it is the truth of how we live,” Nomsa mentioned.
The Annual Photographic Exhibition will be open to the public until the 14th of March 2014. Go to their Facebook page as 2014 Annual Photographic Exhibition or their Twitter page @ TUT Arts for more information.
