The Grove 2014 Cake-off
The Cake-Off competition was held on 30 August in celebration of the The Grove Mall’s 5th birthday
To celebrate this special occasion, live cake demonstrations were held, by Chris Greef and Cobus Bekker from “Kokkedoor”. The charming and vibrant Angelique Gerber from “Boer Soek ń Vrou” was the MC on the day.
It was evident with the decadent and colorful cakes on display that the competition, talent, interest and creativity are increasing year by year.
Bakers from all over competed for the prestigious title, to be named the winner of The Grove Mall Cake–Off 2014. The competition featured three categories, for the professional and beginner bakers, to showcase their talents: Wedding, Chocolate and Kiddies birthday. Every category had its own winner and they received R 5000 in prize money.

Wedding Cake;
1st Prize: R5000 cash – Hermina Warschhuhl (Carrot Lace Cake)
2nd Prize: R2000 Rolkem Voucher – Patricia Graham Gress (Africa Wedding Cakes)
3rd Prize: R1000 Bakers Bin Voucher – Hanani Claasen (nani Cakes)
Choclate Cake:
1st Prize: R5000 cash – Hannes Krugell (Sweetilicous Cakes and Cupcakes)
2nd Prize: R2000 Rolkem Voucher – Richard Hudson (Forest Choclate Berry Cake)
3rd Prize: R1000 Bakers Bin Voucher – Jessica Meyer (Jada’s Cakes and Catering)
Kidies Birthday Cake:
1st Prize: R5000 cash – Talita Badenhorst
2nd Prize: R2000 Rolkem Voucher – Emri Roux (SweettehArt Cakes)
3rd Prize: R1000 Bakers Bin Voucher – Dedre Matthysen
After the judging and prize giving took place, the entry cakes were sold for R10 a slice and the proceeds were then donated to the Prinshof School for the Visually Impaired.
