English and French Bulldog Rescue’s Love your dog walk 2016
English and French Bulldog Rescue South Africa was started by Jean-Mari Smit and Zandra van Dyk in May 2014, when they noticed the increasing need for help for the English Bulldog, as the breed became more popular more and more breeders started to fancy themselves as bulldog breeders, more breeders more puppies more homeless dogs. They have since been joined by a few more ladies, Lenell Hatting, Jolanda Voster and Chantel van der Merwe.
Initially it was just going to be a group to network bulldogs, but due to receiving their first rehoming within minutes of starting the Facebook group they decided to make it a full on rescue.
To date bulldog rescue have home more than 50 dogs and we have been very lucky to have found remarkable homes for all our rescues which we are very grateful for.
With the majority being purebred English Bulldogs, many coming to us with their registration papers. We have also had some honoury Bulldogs among them a Great Dane, A bulldog cross and her pups, a pit bull cross American bulldog and some Boston terriers. Bulldog rescue is dedicated to the wellbeing and education of the English, French and American Bulldog breeds. We even homed two American Bulldog females last year into fabulous homes.
Quite a few of our bulldogs that are surrendered to us require in some instances very specialized medical care such as the cherry-eye operation and soft palate operation before they can be adopted (not to mention the standard procedures such as the neutering/sterilization,microchipping, deworming and getting the dog’s vacs up to date). That’s why we do appreciate any support from the public (attending one of our events, purchasing a raffle ticket, help sharing the dogs that are in need of a new home, being a foster home for us – the list continues) – because we need funds to pay the vet bills.
Our aim and hopes for the future is to be able to build a sanctuary for old Bulldogs to come and retire, currently not an NPO we do not receive very much public funding. But we got the great news a few weeks back our NPC has been registered and we are now just waiting for our NPO number.
Have a look at how this event turned out to be, we at ShowMe Pretoria can’t help but to agree that this was a massive success! Thank you to all the supporters and to all the people out there who cares enough to speak up for those who don’t have a voice.
