The Finery Fair Arts Festival
The Finery Fair is a multicultural arts festival in Pretoria and will take place at Kievits Kroon Country Estate on 24 and 25 September 2016. The first Finery Fair took place on Heritage day, 24 September 2015 at Rosemary Hill. With 3500 fair goers that came throughout the day, The Finery Fair was a major success.
With the KKNK in Oudtshoorn, National Arts Festival in Grahamstown, Aardklop in Potchefstroom and the Woordfees in Stellenbosch, we realized that Pretoria with all its talent, needed a platform to show off its amazing arts and culture.
So the idea for The Finery Fair was born. We are passionate about being a multicultural festival, including all forms of art from cooking to theatre, music, fine art to fashion.
The spring affair of Pretoria is going even bigger this year with 80 quality Finery Makers (vendors), who will sell a variety of products from leather, jewelry, clothes, a range of children’s products, body products, pottery, décor and more. During the course of the weekend there will also be theatre productions, craft workshops, an art exhibition, a lineup of bands and an amazing selection of food, wine, craft gin, whiskey and beer.
On Saturday the lineup includes newcomer Kate Rok, the ever entertaining Silver Creek Mountain Band and fresh off their European tour, Bottomless Coffee Band. On Sunday the husky voice of Suzzi Swanepoel will entertain, before the blues master Gerald Clark takes the stage. Georgetown band will follow to end off the weekend’s celebrations, as one to remember.
Both theatre productions on offer will have a run on Saturday as well as Sunday. Monopoly is an Afrikaans tragi-comedy about a couple going on honeymoon, realizing they have absolutely nothing in common except physical attraction starring award winning actress Stephanie Gericke, Herman Vorster and Reggie Goodwin, written by Corne Joubert. The other production, Kiu, which is the Swahili word meaning “thirst”, is a spiritual and a figurative political commentary, taking the audience on a journey, addressing issues that suggest that South Africa is gradually moving into a dystopian space where there is scarcity of water in the land, starring award winning actor and director, Mduduzi Nhlapo.
The Finery Makers corner is the newest addition to the Finery Fair 2016 and includes entertaining workshops for the curious mind. On Saturday Crafty Cultures will hold a workshop on “How to make Mozzarella at home” and on Sunday they will be hosting “The art of fermentation”. On Saturday, Distillique will present a workshop on “How to make your own Whiskey at home” and on Sunday “How to make your own Gin at home”.
Tickets cost R120 online and include all the above mentioned entertainment. Please note that you must just book your seat for the theatre production of choice. Tickets on the day will cost R150 at the gate, so get your ticket online now from Quicket @ http://qkt.io/finery2016 at the reduced price!
