Immersive Mobile Thriller phenomenon now in Pretoria
After traveling across South Africa, Pretoria audiences can now experience the thrill of the innovative immersive theatre creation that is the Mobile Thriller phenomenon!
Next up in the Mobile Thriller series which has already taken South Africa by storm is ‘bRENT – A Mobile Thriller’ which follows the previous two sold-out award winning productions of ’ONSkuld’ and ‘aLEXA’. The Mobile Thriller series is still the first and only theatre production of its kind in South Africa.
The production of ‘bRENT – A Mobile Thriller’ received rave reviews during its previous sold-out runs in Cape Town and at the National Arts Festival and was described by critics as “powerful and emotive!” (Haith, Cue Newspaper) and “…groundbreaking theatre!” (Schwarp, Media24).
Multi-award winning director, designer and conceptualizer of ‘bRENT – A Mobile Thriller’, Quintin Wils, describes the production as “an intense and exciting immersive production which has never before been done in South Africa”.
‘bRENT – A Mobile Thriller’, written by Herman Vorster, is set in the streets of Centurion where audience members will meet up with the actors, and literally drive with them in the car as the characters start to prepare for a party they have been invited to for the evening.
“Audience members literally drive in the car with the actors where the mystery of conversion therapy will start to unfold itself in the car. We can thus only take three audience members at a time” Wils explains.
“I wanted audiences to become and feel part of each character’s life, almost as if they know them personally, therefore the whole experience of the production is pretty much immersive in its design and execution,” he continues. He hopes the audience can relate to the topic matter and characters and enjoy a theatre event unlike any other before seen or experienced in South Africa.
“bRENT – A Mobile Thriller” is special in it that it has an extremely immersive feel to it, even to such an extent that one is bound to forget that you are actually watching a theatre production,” he says.
The concept and the creator, Quintin Wils, of the Mobile Thriller series have won many accolades including a Naledi Award Nomination for Best Cutting Edge Production, as well as the Award for Best Concept at Die Reviewer Awards in 2014 and 2015. Starring Vianney Henry Farmer and Herman Vorster, this production promises to be an “immersive theatre feast” like never before!
