Emergency Info Centre launched in PE
The Community Information Centre (CIC) launch took place on Thursday 23 February at ADT House in PE.
The CIC is a new community security initiative launched by ADT to improve safety and cohesion of resources in the Port Elizabeth area. It is operational 24/7 and manned by dedicated operators who will transfer the calls to the appropriate law enforcement, municipal, neighbourhood watch or private security resources.
Residents can reach the centre on 086 12 12 210 or 041 363 5136.
ADT Security has been testing the CIC with the Lorraine and Mount Croix community over the past three months and received over 400 calls during that time. The calls included requests for metro assistance, suspicious criminal activity, response and a few other crime related requests for assistance.
“We believe that launching the CIC is the first step to improve the broader security within our community by providing a centralized resource to handle all crime related concerns. The CIC is an innovative project which enables all stakeholders to communicate on the same platform; this includes local private security companies, SAPS, Neighbourhood Watches and Community Policing Forums” says ADT Security’s branch manager in Port Elizabeth, Ryan Britz.
The CIC was endorsed by several community leaders including the head of Lorraine Neighbourhood Watch, Peter Graham who realized the importance of the centre during its testing phase. “The centre saves us a lot of time, we only need to contact one number and we know the concern will be handled. This enables us to be more proactive on the ground,” he says.
His sentiment was supported by John Best, Head of Safety and Security for the Metro Municipality. “I understand the concept of the centre and we support any project that can assist in reducing crime by sharing information”.
