Bay senior citizens get recognised
Saturday the 1st of October is recognised as the International Day of the Elderly and to coincide with this, the Senior Citizens of the Year Awards, sponsored by BLG Logistics of SA, Spec-Savers SA and Sunridge Village Shopping Centre, was held at the Summerstrand Hotel (venue sponsored) to recognise and acknowledge those senior citizens within our communities who endorse “active ageing” and ensure their minds and bodies are stimulated so as to continue a healthy lifestyle, whilst working tirelessly to pay it forward into their respective communities and beyond!
Many nominations were received from in and around the Metro; an information workshop was held; packs were then submitted; prelim judging done and then 3 Finalists in the age categories: 70-79 years and 80-89 years were selected and had to be interviewed by an independent judging panel.
These incredible citizens are inspiring and contribute so much to their communities!
The Category Winners are:
- 70-79 years: Morgan Segadavan-71
- 80-89 years: Pauline Van Zyl of Jansenville
There were also 6 people in the 90+ category…all of whom received Certificates of Recognition and gifts.
And there were two special Awards (and gifts) bestowed on:
- Oom Jan Steenberg – who turns 112 years in December

An incredibly humbling, and inspiring celebration of “seniority”!
