Tsitsikamma National Park, Garden Route
The Tsitsikamma National Park combines the rugged beauty of the dramatic coastline with the verdant forests and indigenous fynbos of the Eastern Cape. Part of the Garden Route, the park can be visited as a day trip from Plettenberg Bay or en-route to Port Elizabeth.
After the drive through the forest down to the crashing waves of the Indian Ocean, take a walk across the suspension bridge to experience the dramatic gorge through which the Storms River has carved its way to the sea or watch the marine life swimming along the shore.
For the intrepid hiker, the famous 5 day 42 km Otter Trail, one of the best in the world, starts from the Tsitsikamma National Park. For mere mortals, there are some other excellent hikes.
The restaurant has a stunning view and is the ideal place to top up after a walk. There are self-catering chalets and camping/caravan sites fronting the shore.
