Two Great Birds
There are two great birds to see in Plett in the next few days:
White-fronted Bee-eater: This bird is displaying very well, and will at times allow you so close that you can take a cell-phone photograph. The bird has never been recorded in Plett before, and is a new one on our list – way out of its normal habitat. It can be found in the grassy area behind the electrical shop attached to the Piesang Valley shopping complex. (The old hardware store was in that complex)
A Greater Flamingo can be seen in the Bitou wetland. This is a first for me in Plett – but Goeff says that they used to be here some time ago. There is good water in the vlei now, and a host of waders can be seen. Go down the Wittedrift road, past all the road works, until you get to an open clearing, where the reeds have been cleared. The bird is quite easy to see from the road.
