Ulysses Garden Route Handover Of Toy Run Donations To SAPS Trauma Centres
Members of Ulysses Garden Route (Ugr) handed over several thousands of rands worth of donations from Toy Run 2016 to members of the SAPS in Mossel Bay mid February.
The donations included general toys and a large number of toiletries and which are specifically earmarked for use in the SAPS “Tauma Centres ” in the Mossel Bay area
The annual Toy Run presented by the South Western District Motorcyling Association on the Garden Route received unprecedented support at the last event which surpassed all expectations. Charitable and needy entities throughout the area were able to benefit from substantial donations made by not only the bikers themselves but a very supportive public.
The SWDMCA is representative of the major motorcycling clubs in the area . all who contribute to the Toy Run and includ-ng Sunset Riders, Renegades, Coded, CMA, Quin e Que, Fugitives and others . “The general public are not always aware of the hours of hard work and the huge contributions to charities across the board from the biking community”, says Peggy Roux of Ulysses who helped co-ordinate the handover to the SAPS . This year the accent was on more “practical ‘donations as specific needs have been identified ranging from personal toiletry needs for schoolgirls to general toiletries. Toys and toiletries are welcome accessories in the Trauma Rooms in cases of family violence .sexual molestation, rape, and indecent assault, and assault on minors ” says Roux . “As the economic hardships faced by many in our community increases so does the need for donations”, says UGR President Eddie Roux. “We as Ulysses are a registered charity and host two uniquely Ulysses annual events of which the proceeds go directly to charity …the Whale Rally ( 9TH TO 11TFI June in Flartenbos) and the Paws Run to be held in George on 1ST October 2017.”
The SAPS contingent at the handover was headed by Lt Col Sakhumzi Mbixo, sers Michelle Moller(Social Crimes Prevention Official) and (Crime Prevention Officer) and Mrs Briesies, ( Counsellor) of Creating Effective Families. Deidre Swanepoel of Fleiderand Crime Watch who also assisted with the co-ordination was also present.
“Seeing the kindness of the biking community first hand has changed my sometimes negative perceptions of guys on motorbikes”, says Col Mbixo . “I am sure there are many people out there who also see a really positive side with acts of kindness such as this . The SAPS appreciates anyone who supports the community in such ways”
