Top soloists perform in Knysna
The Knysna-Plett Concert Series presents the University of Stellenbosch Camerata with soloists Peter Martens (cello), Suzanne Martens (violin) and Nina Schumann (piano)on Monday, February 10.
The Camerata gave their first performance in September 2008, playing Vivaldi and Piazzola’s Eight Seasons with violinist Daniel Rowland. The success of this performance led to a CD recording which won the 2010 SAMA for best Popular Classical Album.
The Camerata always perform without a conductor, but they recently took to the stage with acclaimed Dutch maestro, Arjan Tien. Joshua Bell gave two performances of Vivaldi’s Four Seasons with the Camerata in Cape Town and Stellenbosch.
They have two recordings of film scores to their credit, His Hunter’s Heart, and the soundtrack to the film, Kumba which was released internationally in 2013.
The programme will include works by Elgar, Haydn and Mozart.
The performance will take place at the Dutch Reformed Church hall in Fitchat Street, Knysna at 19:30. The doors open at 18:45 when tickets can be bought at R150 for adult non-members and R30 for school-going youths.
