Ten out of ten for Lunchbox Theatre?
It’s 9 years since Lunchbox Theatre came into being and it is alive and well it is alive and well.
“We have reached a milestone of more than 600 shows to more than 130 000 children, teachers and young adults! I am so proud of my team!” said actor and founder, Stuart Palmer.
Every socially important or environmentally crucial message spreads directly into the community. Nearly 31 000 youngsters have been taught about marine life and protected areas. Nearly 15 000 kids have been taught about how to treat domestic animals. Nearly 7000 Learners have accompanied the actors on the Great Eden to Addo Adventure where they learned about wild animals and biodiversity. Nearly 8000 little ones learned that children actually do have rights and they can say no. Nearly 12 000 potential Nature Lovers now know about the importance of preserving indigenous trees and plants. A huge difference will be made in terms of waste management and the 3 Rs through the nearly 7000 Waste Warriors who have been educated through the What a Waste Show.
A huge number of South African family members are affected by AIDS /HIV yet only about 12 000 young people have seen the show which explains how to avoid and manage this scourge. Most importantly right now is to improve on the 35 000 Water Heroes we have onboard so that we can save more water through The Last Drop Show. Lunchbox Theatre also supports some important After School Activities Program which has life altering consequences for school children in the communities.
As Palmer said, “With the support of so many over the past 9 years we are probably scoring 9 out of 10. If those who care about the issues we address on our website, could find it in their hearts to bequeath a small monthly donation to their favourite cause, we could probably reach 10 out of 10, which is a total win-win for everyone.”
