Simola Hillclimb 2015
The Jaguar Simola Hillclimb is expected to get the adrenaline going again this year when determined participants in breathtaking cars will take to the challenge of the 1,9km ‘Hill’ to see who will be this year’s ‘King of the Hill’.
Well over 10 000 spectators attended in 2014 and the numbers are expected to grow with more excitement on the menu this year. The event will take place from 14 to 17 May at Simola in Knysna. Within three weeks of the first entries accepted at the beginning of February, the category for King of the Hill is fully subscribed.
This category caters for a maximum of 80 entries, including production cars and race vehicles competing in smaller classes based on engine capacity, the number of cylinders and whether they are normally aspirated or boosted by a turbocharger or supercharger.
Only a handful of places are still available for Classic Car Friday, which will see 50 beautifully prepared classic road-going and race cars power towards the finish line at the Simola Golf and Country Estate.
Last year’s winner, Franco Scribante, will be back to defend his title and record-breaking time of 41,159sec. A change to the rules prevents him from competing in the same car in the Classic Car Friday and King of the Hill competitions. Scribante has entered for Classic Car Friday with the 1970 Chevron B19 he used to dominate last year’s event. For King of the Hill on Saturday and Sunday, he will compete in a Chevron B26 powered by a 3,2-litre V8 Suzuki.
Other previous winners and motor sport legends participating, will include 2012 champion Jade Gutzeit in a highly modified Mitsubishi Lancer Evo 7 and 2010 winner Geoff Mortimer in a turbocharged Nissan 350Z.
Supercar Thursday will be run for the first time – a non-competitive event where the runs will be timed, thus giving owners of high-performance supercars the opportunity to test themselves against a tricky track.
