Frustrating weekend for SWD cricketers
It was a frustrating and disappointing weekend for the SWD cricket team when they visited East London and returned without victory.
The three day match against Border resulted in a draw after play was only possible on the first day. Heavy overnight rain flooded the outfield and no play was possible on the second and third day.
SWD scored 258 in their first innings with Border in reply at 56/2 at stumps on the first day. Waldo Lategan (75) made a useful contribution with the bat.
In the limited over match that was played on Sunday SWD, who batted first, scored a competitive 255/7 thanks to a fine innings by Brendon Louw (72*; 56 balls, 3×6, 6×4) and Pieter Stuurman (57; 103 balls, 3×4). Border however, thanks to an unbeaten partnership of 175 runs between Martin Walters (102*) and Gionne Koopman (87*), reached the target in the 45th over with 8 wickets in hand.
