Dave Chamberlain in Plett

ShowMe Plett met up with Dave Chamberlain on the 20th January at LM restaurant to find out how his run has been going so far.
One of the many interesting things that came up was the pram that Dave pushes while running. You ask why a pram? It’s the most cost effective for of transport for all his equipment, food, water and other necessities.
The only problem with having a pram is that certain people who drive past Dave while he is running actually think he is pushing a baby! He has already had several encounters with people who swear and curse while driving past him, as well as people who have actually pulled over and threatened to beat him up for pushing a baby while running in the midday heat! I think the best story was that someone had called the police, who then set up a road block past Wilderness at the bottom of Kaaimans pass to arrest him – Social Services was even there! I must give it up for our police department who went out of their way to help this poor child (even though it didn’t exist). Besides all the close calls with angry drivers, he has also had a lot of people stop him and want to know what his journey is all about.
After lunch at LM, Dave was invited to Ice Palazzo to meet and speak to the children about the penguins. Sue and Paul treated us to their amazing ice-cream and told us about their penguin Bruce who lives in Port Elizabeth with a respiratory problem, inspired them to start a small fundraising project for the Penguins. Sue also gave Dave a shirt designed by 4 year old Mia Rosen.
