ShowMe Plett’s expedition to investigate heritage shipwreck
The past few weeks of rain and rough seas uncovered a shipwreck on central beach that has captured the attention of many of the locals.
A new facebook page has been created focusing solely on ‘Plett – back in the day’. It uncovers so many beautiful images and other mysteries that one would have not thought about unless we experienced the cold fronts that unveiled these recent discoveries.
Unable to find solid evidence on where or what happened to this ship, the lovely Paradise Coast book by Patricia Storrar gives us a brief history on the captain of the ship on page 130. The captain went by the name Captain Sewell and a picture of the shipwreck can also be seen on this page.
This shipwreck seems to be a mystery…
ShowMe Plett went on a small expedition to explore the shipwreck and the change in the beach from Central to Wedge. The beach seems to have dropped about 1.7m of sand height wise – we measured this by using one of the taller ShowMe Representatives standing next to the significant drop – this image can be seen in the gallery below.
