Residents learn the basics of running
A professional running coach from Netherlands has succeeded in getting a large group of Kurland Village residents moving.
Marleen Frunt van den Akker has been doing volunteer work in the small community on the outskirts of Plettenberg Bay for the past two weeks – most of which included imparting her skills as a running coach on the locals.
“Physical exercise brings people together. It can be so much fun and brings joy to those who participate. That is why I decided to teach locals the basics of running,” Frunt van den Akker said.
She added that the health benefits of running were an added advantage.
“There are quite a few overweight residents in the area and the running not only helps with weight loss, but also reduces blood pressure, cholesterol and other issues.”
Frunt van den Akker, the owner of Runningtherapie Bernheze, said that during the past two weeks she had had several different groups gather for training sessions at the Crags rugby field.
