Plett karate kid excels in USA
Plettenberg Bay teenager, Nadine Patterson recently returned from a 16-day visit in Orlando, Florida (USA) where she competed in the US Open ISKA World Martial Arts Championships hosted at Walt Disney World over the weekend of July 11 and 12.
The Grade 10 learner at Wittedrift High School has been practising Karate for five years. She currently has a brown belt. Patterson has excelled at various competitions under the training of Sensei Elrie Bosman. She has received South Western District colours in 2012, 2013 and 2014 and was awarded her South African colours in 2014.
Patterson won gold at the South African Championships earlier this year which served as a qualifier for the US Open ISKA World Martial Arts Championships. Patterson returned home with three trophies and a medal – the trophies for one first place and two second places and a medal for a third place.
Patterson excels at this sport. She intends to continue grading even once she has received her black belt. She said she would love to give back to the community one day by teaching children.
This once-in-a-lifetime opportunity was made possible thanks to the sponsorship and support of Born in Africa, St Christopher’s Catholic Church Parish, The Beacon Island Hotel, Robcon, Lincoln Myburgh Associates, The Bitou Mayoral Council, Dagbreek Eggs, The Jakkalskraal Trust, Sylvia Christians, Patterson’s family, friends, school and parents.
Her parents are proud of her dedication and commitment which enabled her to realise this achievement.
