Plett is transforming its streets into 5K canvas of colour
As part of its Summer Tour series, the original of all powder races – The Color Run™ – is heading to Plett on Sunday, 21 December to give locals and visitors the time of their lives!
Hosted in more than 50 countries and known as the happiest 5K on the planet, The Color Run™ celebrates health, happiness and individuality. The Color Run is the world’s largest single-event series and enjoys the participation of over four million people globally. Plett has been selected as one of fifteen towns in The Color Run 2014 national series, and is getting ready to paint the town red…blue, green and yellow.
Tickets are available online and Color Runners can pre-register for the event. Entries are filling up fast and Runners are encouraged to enter now at www.thecolorrun.co.za before the race sells out. Groups of four buddies or more receive a special discount and kids under ten run free, provided they are accompanied by an adult.
Color Runners will receive race packs full of goodies to wear at the event as part of their entry, including a The Color Run signature t-shirt, headband, temporary tattoos and a race number. A complimentary packet of powder will be handed out to each Color Runner at the finish line to kick off signature Color Blasts in the festival zone.
The fun kicks off at 9am at Central Beach, Plettenberg Bay where Color Runners line up in the start shute. The start is staged in 3 minute waves, to ensure there is room to move along the route. It takes 1-2 hours to complete the route, following which Runners head into the festival zone where they can enjoy music from local DJ’s and artists, best-dressed competitions, food and drink and more colour!
Runners should arrive at the start wearing the white t-shirt and headbands provided in their packs, before the start gun triggers off the race and the festival of colour begins. In each colour zone, volunteers blast participants with clouds of brightly coloured powder. The race ends with a colour-throwing and music festival where Color Runners can make the world a more vibrant place.
Don’t let the term ‘Color Runners’ stop you from entering. The Color Run™ is a non-timed event, and is more about having fun than competing for Olympic gold. 60% of Color Runners are first-time runners, participating for the sheer joy of doing something unique, healthy and fun. So run, jog, walk, cartwheel or get pushed in a pram … anything goes at The Color Run™. There’s only one rule: have the most colourful fun of your life. After all, it’s not called “the Happiest 5k on the Planet” for nothing.
Some might suspect that “the messiest 5k” is an apt name for the event, but you needn’t worry about going to work on Monday morning with hair like Nicki Minaj. The Color Run™ powder washes off easily from hair and skin, and with a bit of washing power, it also comes out of clothes (just don’t wear your best outfit!).
Once the fun is wrapped up, the clean-up process begins of five kilometers of organic corn starch, which is what the colour powder is comprised of. Dyed with organic food colouring, the powder is completely safe and natural, and the local cleaning company has a swift job dusting off the colour around the route.
Fortunately, there’s a lot that stays behind after The Color Run™ – not just great memories and technicolour photos. Despite being a global initiative, The Color Run™ sources local suppliers for each event. The Color Run™ is also a socially conscious event platform that uses proceeds to give back to the local community.
