The “silly season” is almost upon us and already, the vibe in Plett is picking up… from a normal dawdle to a mid-hectic rush, heading to mayhem in its craziest form, come mid-December … then mid-January brings dawdle back to Paradise!
Housekeeping regarding our mailing list: Your monthly newsletter is a pleasure to share with you all … thanks for those who read it regularly and to those who take the time and effort to comment on it … we appreciate any and all feedback very much.
However, should you not wish to receive this newsletter any longer, please do just drop us an email and we will remove your name from the list. Should you wish to see past issues, they are all listed on our website (under the tab called Newsletters!) and our website address is www.woolandmore.co.za.
If you are reading this in the What’s New local paper and would like to receive it in your inbox, please do just let us know… we will happily add your details. There is no obligation, just enjoyment. I would like to thank Cindy at What’s New for publishing it each month – so many ladies who don’t get emails love to read it – thanks Cindy! Appreciate it!
Also, big thanks to all the ladies who bring in unwanted yarn, patterns and needles: I assure you that they all go to those who need assistance with yarn, etc. Many thanks to you all – too many to mention personally!
Kits: After lots of trial and error (and error) and some guidance and encouragement (thanks Teresa and Linda!), our kits have finally arrived! We are starting with blanket kits …
I am busy with one now and this is a warning: they are very difficult to put down, once started! It takes the phrase (knitters biggest lie) “One more row” to a whole new level!!
They are priced at under R500 and make a substantially sized, unique and gorgeous blanket / throw. Colours vary and each one is pre-packed. The kits include all the yarn required, your needles and a yarn snipper (as well as a sample of “Moth-Gone” – this is a completely natural, great smelling fish moth and wool moth deterrent developed by us and is available only from wool&more).
The range of kits will be extended – they make wonderful gifts for any time of the year.
Parking: this is now becoming a very laboured topic – suffice to say that the situation is worse and not better now! I sent a letter to the Municipal Manager, Mr Paulse, and two weeks later, not a peep from him. Mmmmm…!
Thank you all who battle along and visit us anyway – we are really very grateful! Please remember that there is parking on the roof of the Bay View Hotel (not in their guest parking Please) – just drive through their parking area on street level, drive up the very curved ramp and you are there!!
The wooden steps will take you onto our driveway – please take care as the cobbles are slippery when wet. Also please note that parking there, as anywhere, is at your own risk.
Specials: We have a number of stock items that have been reduced as we need to clear these to make space for new stock … please pop in to browse and get some really good buys.
Community Project Programs: The toys for Kranshoek Kleuterskool are delightful – thanks to all of you who brought in those beautiful toys: Gill collected a big bag full and she is just delighted. Thanks again!
Only a few adult beanies have come in – these are for the 50 or so aged residents in Kurland for Christmas. Please make us some so that each person can get a beanie for Christmas. There is still time before end November to bring those in for distribution.
The baby beanies are coming in thick and fast: this is an ongoing project and these will be handed to the new mothers at our clinics – with the great assistance of the Lions Club – thanks Jill and your team!! If you wish to knit or crochet booties and / or blankets for these infants, they, too, will be very welcome!
Gifts for Christmas: We have lovely gift vouchers of any denomination, with free Christmas cards for any and all purchases at wool&more – the knitters and crochet ladies in your life will love you for these!
Two gorgeous children’s books are also available and make fantastic gifts:
“Welcome Tommy Toad” suits children of all ages but particularly children aged approximately 5 to 11 years old. Having said that, we have had very positive feedback from children whose ages are both younger and older than those mentioned. It is the true story of a toad who comes to live in the pet dog’s water bowl, and all the adventures that ensue.
It teaches about love, trust and mostly Gratitude. Printed on recycled paper with some interactive pages and fully illustrated in colour, this is a very special book (author – Joy Sachs)!
We are also waiting for a consignment of books, arriving mid-December, by an author in Cape Town, Avril Lasker. All illustrations were done by a boy aged 8 years old – really a delight!
THE BOY WHO FLEW HIGHER THAN THE MOON – written by Avril Lasker
A beautiful warm adventure set on the slopes of Table Mountain
It introduces a wider consciousness showing that the world
of spirit is open to all who seek it. It also gives comfort to those who
have suffered the loss of a family member or friend.
Both books retail at R99-00 each and 25% of sales will be donated to a local children’s charity. They are only available at wool&more and have soft covers. Definitely worth considering as gifts.
Trading times: Just to remind you: our normal trading hours are Monday to Friday 10.00 to 16.00 and we are open every first and last Saturday of each month from 09.30 to 12.30. Having said that, from 14th December 2015 until and including Saturday 9th January 2016, we will be open EVERY Saturday and ALL public holidays (yes, even Christmas Day and New Year’s Day) from 09H30 to 12H30.
Recently saw a mug with the bold words: “HOUSEKEEPING COMES BEFORE KNITTING – only in the dictionary!” Would love to have some of those mugs….
Have a good balance of November and keep creating: the benefits are too numerous to mention. See you all soon – in person or virtually.
Your support is hugely appreciated – many, many thanks, as always.
Joy Sachs
