March heralds, traditionally, the time to sort out our stash, plan some warming projects and dust off our knitting needles and crochet hooks! And each year, for the past three winters since wool&more has been in existence, we have found more and more over which to “oooh and aaaah”. This year is not different! So get in soon to get a healthy dose of inspiration and to see and feel the yarns we have available – you won’t be disappointed!
Winter Trading Hours:
Effective 21st March 2016 (until and including 30th July), we will be here for your convenience every Saturday and Public Holiday from 09H30 to 12H30. Our normal Monday to Friday hours apply: 10H00 to 16H00 (unless it is a Public Holiday, in which case, 09H30 to 12H30). Whilst we are normally here at around 09H15 in the mornings, we are dependent on banks, medical appointments and collections being on time for us to be at the shop earlier than 10H00.
Community Project Programs:
As mentioned last month, we are still wanting strips, knitted or crocheted, any width, any colours but 1 metre long. These are sewn together to make blankets for children at risk and the elderly in our Plett community. In February, we appealed for volunteers to pop in to sew some strips, already handed in, together. Sadly, only two ladies came forward to assist – thanks to you both (you know who you are). Thus, if you are able to hand us finished blankets, that would be wonderful.
We also gave the pattern for a toddler’s jersey – very easy and once again, any colour and any yarn would be welcome. They will be distributed at various crèches in Plett. All patterns in previous newsletters can be accessed by going onto our website www.woolandmore.co.za (newsletter tab).
We have also committed to supply 50 beanies to children aged from 2 to 6 who attend the Happy Kids Creche in The Crags. These will be distributed through the Lions Club of Plett, around end April … so let’s get knitting / crocheting!
The Lions are also spearheading creating a Children’s area at the Plett clinic in town where they will have blackboards, books and toys for the kids who have to wait for hours for their parents at the clinic. Please can we request more balls to be knitted? They are colourful and safe and each ball is unique. The Lions will ensure that there is always a supply for the kids – the easy pattern did appear in a previous newsletter but should you wish to have a copy, please do pop in to collect one – it’s simple and quick to do and you can use up all your scraps of yarn for the ball. We also keep stuffing which is very inexpensive.
It may be a tall order, but Barbara Estment who assists with teaching at the very needy primary school, called Harkerville Premier, has requested 80 maroon beanies for each of the kids there for this winter. Let’s see what we can do to assist – any suggestions / offers would be hugely appreciated. Perhaps machine knitted? The school is also holding a Jumble Sale to help raise some funds so they are looking for anything you have at home … adult and kids clothing, toys, kitchen ware, etc etc. You are welcome to drop your parcels off at wool&more. Perfect opportunity to have a great declutter, knowing that your goodies will be going to a very worthwhile cause.
New yarns / dye lots:
Whilst we are still expecting a number of new yarns (a load from Katia next week, Whisp and printed Rustica from Elle, etc), we already are bursting at the seams with stock. Please note, as a reminder, that it is your responsibility to check your dye lots – especially when buying a few balls off the shelves. Pop in regularly to see the new yarns.
Sewing Machine Service / Repair:
Ed is doing a great job of servicing and repairing the sewing machines brought into our store (used as a drop off / collection point only, for the machines). We are certainly very lucky to have Ed in our area to assist with this.
Reversible Crochet:
Last month, we had a very successful few lessons teaching this technique. Whilst it takes practice and guidance, initially, it certainly is very worthwhile and the finished blanket / cushion covers, etc are terrific. Should you wish to attend the lessons, please do call to enquire and book for the two hour lesson.
This newsletter is short and sweet and comes to you with much love and infused with loads of yarn creativity.
Until next month, be happy and get those fingers moving! Meanwhile, wishing you a very happy Easter and a great Passover.
With love,
Joy
