The temperature is a little lower, the sun is rising a little later and the stock is pouring into the shop … I think that all those signs must mean that Winter is on its way! Welcome Winter, my Woolly Friend!
The Mischief and Saxony yarns from Elle are delightful and already selling very well … the swatches knitted up beautifully and easily and the colours are delicious! The Babykins range has not been released yet, unfortunately, but I await its arrival with alacrity!
Verena, the lady who supplies us with the magnificent Alpaca yarn popped in to visit and brought Linda with her – Linda does her own dying of Merino and Alpaca yarn which is beautiful (soon to be stocked at wool&more, of course!) but even more exciting is that she offers full day courses in “Wild Knitting” – Day 1 and Day 2 (more advanced). Please have a look at her blog (or to the pics attached) to see her amazing style…she teaches very unusual and beautiful techniques to knit very creatively. No pics do her work justice, by the way! She travels all over the country but I have managed to squeeze her into doing her Day 1 course at wool&more on Friday 22nd May from 9 – 4. (Day 2 will be on offer possibly in June). This is a “must do” … you truly won’t be sorry. Space really is limited so it will only be on a “First Come, First Serve” basis. Price: R400-00 for the day including Linda’s notes, teas/coffees and a delicious light lunch.

And talking of courses: remember we spoke about the very talented and in demand Doortjie Gersbach who will be running her crochet courses here on the 9th and 10th July… yes, it is a long way off but bookings are coming in steadily so please get your name in – for either day 1 or day 2 – or both! The price per day will be R350-00 including refreshments and a light lunch.
Space is limited so hurry and book for both courses today!
And the winner of our donated “Seriously Funky Blankie” is Emmie Foot from Plett!! Well done Emmie for your lovely win and a big hats off to Gail who slaved away on the gorgeous blanket and generously donated it. We mentioned that the funds were going to be used to purchase food for Zelda’s Shelter in Wittedrift. We sold 26 tickets at R10 each (totalling R260-00) and bought groceries for the shelter valued at R318.94. Have a look at the attached photo of a very happy Zelda who collected the 3 heavy bags of food – she is so delighted with your generosity. Thanks again.
Our current Community Project Program is well under way but going a little slowly right now. Just to remind you:
We are knitting or crocheting strips, any colour, any yarn, any width but all 1m long. These will be sewn into blankets for the children currently staying at the Masizame Shelter. Their ages range from 3 to 17 years of age and we now need approximately 40 blankets!! That would be at least 200 strips!! We don’t even have half of that yet, and a lot of what we do have are from one amazing lady – Dilys – you are a star!! So come on ladies, get cracking on getting your strips to us. We also would love some of your donated time to come and sew some completed strips together. As we stand now, we will be delaying our hand-over of the blankets a little … still hoping to get them delivered to Masizame before end of April (yes, This Year!!).
And talking of giving to charities: I have been asked why we are not “officially” contributing to the 67 Blankets for Mandela campaign in Pretoria. Just for the record, last year, we sent a box of just over 200 squares and were not acknowledged or thanked for them but more than that (after all, it’s not about the thanks), we really do feel that the need within our town is pressing enough for us and others who do great work with charities, to fulfil in a year or five!
Our SPECIAL for this month, starting on Saturday 29th March and ending on Saturday 4th April is….
Plain colour Elle Crochet 5 balls… normally R23-50 each, now only R19-00 each. Limited to 5 balls per sale and only whilst stocks last.
Please remember that our Loyalty Card is not applicable for any Specials or sale items.
For your convenience, we will be open and trading on ALL the Public Holidays, from 9.30am to 12.30pm. Our normal hours are Mondays to Fridays from 10h00 to 16h00 (unless on a public holiday) and every first and last Saturday of every month from 9h30 to 12h30.
A delightful customer brought in a gorgeous baby blanket to show me and we have decided to include the pattern. Let me know what you think about it please! Thanks Lorena and well done (even named it after you)!!
