New exhibition opens at Knysna Fine Art Gallery
John-Michael Metelerkamp’s (31) untitled exhibition will be opening at the Knysna Fine Art Gallery at 6 Long Street at 18:00 on Thursday, August 28.
When not painting, Metelerkamp is ‘catching’ the waves or walking with his dog Tess.
The full-time artist currently works in acrylic paint but, four years ago, exhibited his sculptures at the Leisure Isle Gallery. Metelerkamp says he comes from an entire family of creative genius and also has a sibling who is a full-time artist. Sixteen of the surfing artist’s paintings will be on display at this exhibition, most of them featuring wildlife.
“I think I have been painting a picture every moment of my life. I think we all do – our own perceptions of what is happening, where we are and what we are going through. I am very familiar with wildlife. I grew up going to game parks in Southern Africa. I recently went on a trip to the Kalahari with my brother and father. It was one of my best trips and brought back many great memories.
