Human Settlement to Assist Knysna & Plett Fire Victims
Human Settlements Minister, Lindiwe Sisulu, says all provincial Human Settlement Departments will make 5% of their budget available for housing in the Knysna and Plettenberg Bay areas.
This after devastating fires destroyed over 800 properties and caused hundreds of millions rand worth of damages.
She met local government officials in Knysna on Thursday.
Still coming to terms with the devastation, Thembile Plaatjie lost most of his house to the fire.
Only one room survived, but his neighbours lost everything.
Temporary housing will soon be supplied to those who have been displaced.
Minister Sisulu has called on municipalities to focus on integrated housing in the long term and doing away with informal settlements.
She says all her provincial departments will help finance immediate housing needs.
It is hoped that all role players will work together to find solutions going forward.
