Helping Hand launches half a million rand project
Today, at a launch in Pretoria, the Solidarity Movement presented the last of half a million rand’s worth of hearing aids to needy hearing-impaired persons.
The Solidarity Movement recently initiated this project whereby 25 needy hearing-impaired persons from across the country received brand-new hearing aids. Hearing aids to the value of half a million rand were sponsored by Impact Hearing Systems. Solidarity Helping Hand, in conjunction with the University of Pretoria, identified the recipients of the hearing aids by means of a hearing screening test and the Daspoort Clinic sponsored the facilities for this test.
Solidarity Deputy General Secretary Johan Kruger today expressed his gratitude towards Impact Hearing Systems for donating the hearing aids. “Impact Hearing Systems actually only used the Solidarity Movement as a vehicle for the implementation of this project, thereby changing people’s lives dramatically,” he said.
“This project is important to us at Solidarity, not only because it uplifts impoverished persons in a sustainable way, but also because it gives them the opportunity to enter into the labour market again. Many of these people have battled to find a job or to keep one due to their hearing disability. As an employee organisation, it is therefore a privilege for us to enable them to become economically productive again. These hearing aids are actually an investment in people’s quality of life and future.”
Pieter Coetzee, CEO of Impact Hearing Systems, said that it was important for his company to get involved with charitable activities, thereby giving something back to communities. “We at Impact Hearing Systems are aware of the negative impact that a hearing disability has on a person’s life and therefore it is a privilege for us to help these people who are financially unable to do so themselves. We trust that these hearing aids will make a positive contribution to improve the quality of life of all the recipients. Today, a new chapter begins in the lives of these people and we are proud to be part of it.”
