Formosa gets European visit
The Formosa ELSEN (Education for Learners with Special Educational Needs) Unit and Resource Centre in Plettenberg Bay recently received a surprise visit from special friends from the Netherlands.
Jan Jacobs and Chantal van Summeren represent some of the schools visited by Formosa ELSEN educator Leigh Dunn during his visit to Europe three years ago. Jacobs and Van Summeren decided to pay a return visit to Plett.
They are members of Born in Africa – a Europe-based NGO doing amazing work in the underprivileged schools in the Bitou communities. Jacobs and Van Summeren, together with the South African chairperson of Born in Africa, Isabelle Brink, visited Formosa Primary School with gifts and educational aids all the way from the Netherlands.
The visit was also to set up a partnership with Formosa ELSEN, and to organise that international students can visit, assist, and do practical volunteer work there, from as early as this year.
The children of Formosa ELSEN would like to thank Cantal, Joop and Mien van Summeren and Jan Jacobs for sponsoring their school shoes, and donating the educational resources and toys donated.
