Election of new Speaker and Deputy Executive Mayor for Bitou Local Municipality
Subsequent to the signing of a new coalition agreement between the Active United Front (AUF) and the Democratic Alliance (DA) a Special Council meeting was convened for Tuesday, May 23, 2017.
The peaceful transition went unopposed and saw the Executive Mayor announcing his new Mayoral Committee members.
Long-time serving Ward Councillor Annelise Olivier (DA) was elected as the Speaker of Council and Ward 1 Councillor Jessica Kamkam (DA) was elected as the Deputy Executive Mayor.
The Executive Mayor Councillor Peter Lobese announced the member of his new Mayoral Committee as follows:
- Deputy Executive Mayor Jessica Kamkam (DA)
- PR Councillor Nomphumelelo Ndayi (DA)
- PR Councillor Bill Nel (DA)
Councillor Gcabayi (ANC) rendered closing remarks and stated the following “As the ANC we will always be advocating a stable and caring government that is based on the will of the people. We will always play our oversight role in keeping check on a clean & corrupt free government. As ANC we are for clean governance and we will be working together, as our main objective is service delivery for the people of Bitou and to make sure there is smooth running of government, no hindrance. That is the belief of the ANC.”
Councillor Bill Nell thanked the ANC for their conduct in the Special Council meeting today, and reiterated their commitment to work together in serving the community of Bitou.
After conclusion of the Special Council Meeting Speaker Annelise Olivier said “Good governance, the inclusivity of our minority groups through our Public Participation processes and a sound administration remains our focal areas as we take up our new positions in Council”.
