Bitou wins national housing award
Bitou municipality housing department and Ukhana Projects CC have won the national award for best upgrading of informal settlements for the Qolweni/Bossiesgif project in Plettenberg Bay, at the Govan Mbeki national awards ceremony on Thursday, November 24 in Durban.
It’s the second year that Bitou municipality and Ukhana Projects CC have competed in these awards on provincial and national level.
Francina Le Roux, owner of Ukhana Projects CC, also won the provincial award for best woman contractor of the year in 2015.
Bitou and Ukhana also received the national award for best integrated residential development programme for Kwanokuthula in 2015.
This award was in recognition of the Bossiesgif/Qolweni development of 358 single and double duplex units that was built between November 2014 and May 2016 at the sum of R43 669 201.13.
This project created over 400 jobs for the local community of Plettenberg Bay.
It was a prestigious event, hosted at the Inkosi Albert Luthuli International Convention Centre, by the Kwa-Zulu Natal human settlements department, and presented by national Minister of Human Settlements Lindiwe Sisulu.
Sisulu said at the award ceremony that 1.6-million houses will be built by 2019.
