Alliance to save Plett
The Save Plett Alliance is a newly formed body that aims to oppose potential damage to the Central Beach public space as a result of the proposed small boat harbour development currently under discussion. Instead, the alliance encourages the sensible modernisation and improvement of this area.
The alliance has taken it upon itself to halt the present process involving Western Cape Marina Investments’ compilation of a scoping report to assess the viability of a small boat harbour development in the Piesang River Mouth.
The alliance comprises the Plett Ratepayers and Residents Association, with support from the Plettenberg Bay Community Environmental Forum, as well as affected property owners and groups.
“All parties will retain full independence and will continue to pursue their normal activities but will unite in the Save Plett Alliance where needed,” said Basil Van Rooyen, spokesperson on behalf of the alliance.
The alliance believes that careful consideration should be given to Bitou’s tourism-based economy, the environment, the rights of existing property owners and seasonal holiday-makers as well as the scarcity of municipal funds.
