1st day of school in Plett
With a few tears, some nerves, but most of all big dreams, hundreds of Plettenberg Bay Grade 1s started their school careers on Wednesday , January 13.
While it was difficult for some to say goodbye to Mom and Dad and join their new friends and teachers, by the time the first break bell rang every little one was settled and ready to learn.
And what they expect to learn differed widely from child to child, with some wanting the teacher to show them how to write their names while others want learn how to do push-ups.
“I want teacher to show me how to do push-ups because I want to be strong,” said Plettenberg Bay primary Grade 1 Cohen Bruinders.
“I want to learn how to write,” classmate Hannah de Necker said.
At Formosa Primary School painting and writing was high on the learners’ priority list.
“I want to learn how to write my name,” Lomach April said.
New classmate Ano Gosani however said she wanted her new teacher to teach her to create masterpieces. “I want to paint really good,” Ano said.
Fast forward about 15 years from now and Plett can expect an influx of police officers, artists and doctors.
I want to be a policeman because I want to put the people who steal in jail,” Formosa learner Leano Wildeman said.
Classmate Kaylin Harker said she enjoyed helping people and therefore dreamt of being a dokter “one day”.
When asked why she wanted to be a lawyer, Keisha Noyila said: “Because my mom said I must be one.”
Plett Primary learners and desk buddies Hannah and Alessandro Cassani said they both wanted to be artists.
