Pelican Art Gallery Exhibition
One fine day five superb artists collaborated and formed the Pelican Art Gallery, which lies snuggled in the heart of Knysna, at the Wooden Boat Shop in the well renowned Woodmil Lane Shopping Centre.
These artists are a handful of the very best in Knysna:
Peter Barrett retired eight years ago in Knysna and started painting in oils. He found himself inspired mostly by the French Impressionists & has a great passion for landscapes. So far he has had great success with four exhibitions in Knysna & four in Johannesburg.
Owen Roberts loves the beauty of Knysna and the Western Cape. He was given a digital camera as a gift by the pupils of Kearsney College when he took retirement. He uses it to capture magical scenes, which he uses as an inspiration for his paintings. He started with watercolours in all their delicacy and transparency but more recently has turned to the vibrancy and depth of oils to capture the incredible colours of God’s creation.
Margie Guy started working in pastels but moved to oils and has sold most of her works both locally and internationally. She was one of 50 South African artists whose miniatures were selected and exhibited at the Worldwide Exhibition of Fine Arts in Miniature held at the Smithsonian Institute in Washington USA in 2006. A member of the Knysna Art Society, she adeptly covers a vast range of subjects in various mediums.
Johnathan Davies a renowned artist from Plettenberg Bay with his beautiful renditions of cottages and boats, is a designer, illustrator and cartoonist. His landscapes are usually in the realist tradition and feature man-made elements – an old house or shop, a winding road, a battered signpost – subjects that have decayed with time and the elements, the everyday object easily overlooked by a busy world.
Marion Weymouth a gifted pastel artist excelling in portraiture and animal studies. She has been painting portraits successfully for over 30 years and is considered one of Knysna’s most talented artists. Her knowledge of the medium is phenomenal and shows in her portrayal of her subject matter, be it an animal, child or adult.
