KIA announces the World’s Longest Test Drive relay winner of all-new Sportage
(JOHANNESBURG) November 8, 2016 – Friday, 4 November 2016, is a date that is sure to remain memorable for Jan Heymans who, just after lunchtime, was announced as the winner of an all-new KIA Sportage – purely because he entered, and participated in, KIA Motors South Africa’s record-setting, cross-country World’s Longest Test Drive.
Mr. Heymans helped set the record by driving a new KIA Sportage from KIA Motors Port Elizabeth to KIA Motors Jeffrey’s Bay, and was chosen from a pool of 520 participants.
“A very big thank you to KIA for this unbelievable prize. It has always been a dream of mine to experience and drive a car of this magnitude. I was excited to just be a part of the World’s Longest Test Drive – for me that was my prize already. The drive from Port Elizabeth to Jeffrey’s Bay was so smooth and comfortable. To now be told that I have won a new KIA Sportage – I am overwhelmed. Christmas has come early.” Says Mr. Heymans.
On 20 October 2016, KIA Motors South Africa officially set the world record, officiated by RecordSetter, for The World’s Longest Test Drive Relay. The KIA team, together with 520 test drivers selected from more than 30 000 entries, covered a total of 3,291 km while driving through six South African provinces over a seven day period. The test drive kicked off from Durban on Friday, October 14th and ended at Cape Point.
“While one of our aims with setting the world record for The World’s Longest Test Drive Relay was to showcase the all-new Sportage to as many people as possible, we have also succeeded in giving each of the participants an authentic and truly memorable experience,” says David Sieff, Marketing Director for KIA Motors South Africa.
KIA’s entire record-setting experience, which was accompanied by Instagrammers Mike Eloff and Lebo Lukewarm, was filmed every step of the way thanks to active dashcams and a 24-7 film crew. Head over to www.kiaworldrecord.co.za for a recap of what went down.
