Enrico’s Fishing Charters – Black Marlin (Makaira Indica)
Black Marlin (Makaira Indica)
A Black Marlin washed ashore at Central beach Plettenberg Bay on Saturday the 20th of April with no visible signs of external injury. The specimen was 3.05 meters in length and had a girth of 740mm; the estimated weight of the Marlin was 250kg -280kg. The post mortem revealed no visible damage to the internal organs or any sign of disease. The stomach had no content in it, so the fish had not eaten in days or had regurgitated its stomach content due to stress.
The only other valid explanation on why this majestic animal came ashore is due to the cold water surrounding the Plettenberg Bay area. The Marlin may have been trapped and stunned by the cooler water and thus unable to swim strong enough to feed and stay alive.
