Release of the Secretary birds
After 3 months of intensive rehab, the time finally came for Radical Raptors to release their rehabilitated Secretary Birds.
The release of these beautiful, big birds took place on the Plettenberg Bay Game Reserve, on Monday the 11th of September 2017.
After the fires in June, these two birds were picked up at different locations in Knysna and Plett – both were starving and were in desperate need of care.
Tania Robson from Radical Raptors was pleased, that the release of these birds went very well!
Dennis Robson and Mark Robson, 2 falconers and brothers, each transported a bird by holding them firmly and keeping them calm. Once they arrived at the reserve they went out to the open field where the birds were to be released.
The young female took off instantly, whereas the adult male at first ‘played dead’ but soon realized that he was free to fly off as well, which is exactly what he did!
It was a bit of a windy morning, but these birds loved it!! They opened up their wings and the wind just took them. It was magnificent to watch!
