Evita Bezuidenhout in Plett
They say that laughter is the best medicine, so in light of the recent State of the Nation chaos that plagued South Africa, Tannie Evita Bezuidenhout is set to bring some of relief to Plett with her latest show.
Evita – the alter ego of legendary South African entertainer Pieter-Dirk Uys – will perform her State of the Nation Address in An Evening with Evita on February 15 at Plettenberg Bay’s White House Theatre.
The character – an Afrikaans socialite and self-proclaimed political activist – has been a popular one around South Africa for the past three decades and have often been dubbed the “most famous white woman” in the country.
Through Tannie Evita, Uys has managed to address often sensitive and topical issues through humour – never using bad language and or tasteless references.
In her latest show Evita will take on the role as an honorable member of the ANC to focus on women and address the state of family values, encouraging audiences to have a laugh as they remember their roots in order to embrace and celebrate where they are headed.
It is said that the character Evita Bezuidenhout was inspired by Australian comedian Barry Humphries’s character Dame Edna Everage and named in honour of former Argentinian First Lady Eva Peron.
Although tickets are sold out, fans who could not obtain tickets do not have to despair as Uys will be back in Plett next month with a new show: The Echo of Noise, Pieter-Dirk Uys UNPLUGGED.
This will also take place at the White House Theatre on March 16 and tickets will be sold at R200 per person. Tickets will be available from Webtickets.
