The Paarl Wine Route
Paarl is the largest town in the Cape Winelands and is well known for three major reasons – the second largest outcrop of granite in the world, the Paarl Mountain, original Cape Dutch architecture and last but not least, some of the best wine estates in South Africa. Winemakers have always been drawn to the region due to its varied soil conditions and weather conditions on the different sides of the mountain. These conditions make it possible form the wine estates in the area to grow a great variation of cultivars for red and white wines as well as brandies and sparkling wines.
The estates are perfectly geared for events and entertainment and offer excellent activities from wine tasting, fine dining, picnics and concerts. Hiking and horse riding are also popular attractions.
