Colleen Grove – INTRO AND BIOGRAPHY
.
About me:
Colleen Grove – cook, food writer and bloggist.
I love everything about food – sourcing it, cooking it, savouring it, delighting in it and sharing it. I am a small town Eastern Cape girl (now ouma) living in the delightful seaside town of Fish Hoek. Over time you will get to know my family as they will feature in my posts. They are, after all, my most precious (and ardent) critics! My hobbies, aside from food, include crocheting which I am teaching myself via youtube, reading, walking and photography.
In 2008 I started blogging about my home life and the goings on in my little kitchen. After pushing that button to publish my first post I was hooked. I believe passionately that a recipe has to be accurately and properly written and, of course, drool-worthy photographs to accompany a recipe are a prerequisite for a good blog post. Photographs speak to one. We eat first with our eyes. So, within a short time I started, along with a good friend and fellow blogger, the South African Food and Wine Blogger Indaba, a conference with the objective to connect like-minded people through blogging, writing and social media (and food of course!) and to simultaneously hone my own writing, styling, pairing and photography skills while assisting others to achieve the same. To date we have organized and run 4 fabulous Indabas in Cape Town. Blogging opened up a whole new world to me and I am still embracing it with wide open arms and eyes. It led to me winning a couple of fabulous competitions with my recipes and this in turn led to me being given contracts to do some product development over the ensuing years. My personal blog has taken a bit of a back seat in recent years as I spent my time coordinating conferences.
I was recently approached by Showme Paarl to start the Winelands Kitchen section on their online portal, an honour and challenge readily accepted. Am I crazy or what? At 63 my mantra is “You are never too old to learn something new!” And pushing the boundaries to your comfort zone can be quite thrilling and challenging!
I look forward to meeting the beautiful people in this hidden gem of the Western Cape, Paarl, dominated over by the majestic Paarl Rock and the tapering Taal Monument, that loooong Main Road with all its beautiful historical buildings, the wine farms, the restaurants/bistros and the people who run them all.
I also love and look forward to interacting with all the readers so please make use of the comments facility at the bottom of the posts to comment and make suggestions. I would love to know what makes YOU tick and what foods you enjoy and would like to know more about. If you have a favourite dish that you are dying to know how to recreate at home…email me or comment and I will see what I can do to help you achieve it.You need to sign up for free to be able to comment.
I trust that the Winelands Kitchen will continue to grow as more and more readers become aware of it.
Please start reading my cooking articles and recipes and I hope you enjoy reading as much as I enjoy writing them.
Welcome to my world…….
