The tables were exquisitely decorated with colourful flowers and mouth-watering snacks, creating a warm and inviting atmosphere for all attendees.

The event began with the soulful sound of Coenie Naude’s voice as he sang three heartwarming songs. Following this, the 2022 Global Hero of Hope, Marlene Pretorius, shared a touching message with everyone.

The guest speaker of the day was the lovely Lynette Beer, who captivated the audience with her phenomenal speech. Her sense of humour had everyone laughing until their tummies hurt.

The success of the day would not have been possible without the support of all the ladies who joined and made this fundraiser possible.

PRESS RELEASE FOR EMARGO: 23 FEBRUARY 2023

International Day of Women and Girls in science began as a resolution by the United Nations in 2015. The mission was to address the gender gap in STEM fields by celebrating the contributions and achievements of women in science.

This year, Riverside CID in partnership with the Riverside CID Social Investment Foundation and Agricultural Research Council-Tropical and Subtropical Crops (ARC) recognised the day by inviting a group of young female learners that are part of local NPO Sesi Lomkhulu to explore the phenomenon of agricultural science. The activation aimed to focus on encouraging girls to have a positive mindset towards the subject as well as to make science more accessible and relatable.

On arrival, the girls were treated to a tour of the facilities, followed by the opportunity to participate in various practical activities that highlighted the function science plays in the agricultural sector.

Dr Elliosha Hajar, Acting Research Team Manager for Plant Breeding expressed her delight in the opportunity she had to showcase science “I believe that by empowering the girl child, we are empowering the next generation of world changers, and I am so pleased to be able to be part of a day in which we celebrate the progression of women and girls in this field.” she said.

Gary Phillips, Riverside CSI Programme Manger added that the Foundation is an advocate for investing in the youth because they are agents of change and indicated that the CSI Foundation plans to focus project funding on upskilling and training. “The Foundation is committed to facilitating catalysing, sustainable and impacting community welfare and development initiatives. Activations like today is just part of the innovative projects we plan to roll-out.”

The day concluded with an inspiring chat to happy, inquiring minds. “We hope that this will inspire other corporates to get involved with the Riverside CID Social Investment Foundation in order to be able to give many more learners this hands-on experience” said Jessica Prim, Marketing Coordinator for the Riverside CID.

London – Springbok coach Jacques Nienaber and captain Siya Kolisi praised the team for their brave effort to earn their first win over England at Twickenham since 2014, and their first personal victories in London as they registered a rewarding 27-13 victory on Saturday.

The Boks built up an encouraging 14-3 halftime lead and managed to stretch it to 27-6 in the 57th minute before being reduced to 14 men for the last 20 minutes after replacement prop Thomas du Toit received a red card for a dangerous tackle. Despite this, the team hung on as if their lives depended on it to snatch the memorable victory.

The result saw the Boks win two of their four matches on the Castle Lager Outgoing Tour – with the two narrow defeats being against the first and second-ranked teams in the world in Ireland and France.

“We’ve had a couple of special results as a team, but this was the first win for Siya and me at Twickenham, so it’s very special to us,” said Nienaber.

“The forwards were outstanding and created a good platform for our backs to attack, so all-in-all, it was a fantastic team effort.”

Kolisi echoed and lauded the entire team for their efforts to make the victory possible.

“Sometimes we take it for granted what a special environment one is in and the great coaching team we have,” said Kolisi.

“When we got together with most of this coaching team in 2018, we all bought into the plans, and the synergy and the way we work together is really special in this group.”

Nienaber was delighted with the way some of the young players rose to the occasion and said: “With this match being outside of the international Test window there were a whole lot of players who were not available for selection, but we have a lot of players knocking on the door and it was great to give those guys an opportunity tonight.

“It’s always good to give those players a chance under such pressure in front of a packed Twickenham, which can be pretty hostile, and they stood up today.”

Asked what he had told his players when they were reduced to 14 men, Kolisi said: “We actually said last week there is nothing we haven’t faced together as a group year. We’ve even been in situations when we had a red card, so the players knew what to do.

“Everyone knew they had to work harder to make up for the extra man, and the way the forwards played was great, and everyone did their bit to get the result.”

Wrapping up the tour, Nienaber said: “This was one of the most enjoyable four weeks we’ve had even though we only got a 50% win record. The way the team, coaches, management, and the game drivers made plans and worked tightly together with it was great, and we can take a lot from this going forward.”

The team will make their journey back to South Africa on Sunday and arrive on their home soil on Monday.

Various Lowveld companies joined in the tree planting for Arbor month as a token of offsetting carbon emissions. The school’s grade 8 and 11 pupils were treated to a variety of activities as part of the upliftment initiative.

The Kruger National Park K9 dog unit demonstrated how the dogs find ammunition and catch potential perpetrators, while Albert Smith, Section Ranger, spoke to the future young leaders about anti-poaching in the Kruger.

The Department of Environmental Management and Department of Waste Management also joined us on this day and sponsored recycling drums for the school. A special thank you to the Komati Group for sponsoring delicious oranges that were shared between the pupils.

Both companies that participated, as well as the school, had a wonderful and informative day.

Since inception Pediatric Care Africa has delivered the equivalent of 2.3 million meals in food parcel form, 4 290 tins of baby formula and 8 570 packets of baby cereal to babies, toddlers and children in food distress and in danger of growth stunting.

That equates to roughly FOUR HUNDRED AND TEN (410) TONS OF FOOD contributed (either in product or financial assistance) by many different donor companies and individuals!!!
