How can I help the Lowveld SPCA?
Walking past the kennels at the SPCA in Nelspruit, you are greeted by smiling grins from pups in all shapes and sizes. I stopped for a minute and listened to those around me: “ek wens ek kon hulle almal huis toe vat”, “isnt he the cutest mom”, “take a look at this guy”, “I want that one” – Listening to the public embrace the work of the SPCA and looking into the eyes of tiny kittens, one can only be inspired to do try and do more for the animals. The Lowveld SPCA need our help and we can help them in many ways.
1. Finding an animal
If you find a dog or a cat, the best thing to do is to take it to the SPCA. The SPCA is located in Meidelinger street in Nelspruit. They are open between 10h00 and 15h00 every day and their emergency line number is 082 755 8687. Find out more.
2. Bags of food
The SPCA in Nelspruit have over 65 Kennels and receive up to 10 kittens everyday. All of these dogs and cats need to be fed. You can help by donating bags of dog food and cat food to the SPCA. According to Ilse Kruger of the Lowveld SPCA, the SPCA is in desperate need of cat food. Most of the time, when food is donated, it is usually dog food. Food of any brand, any size, for any age of cat or dog will not go wasted and will be used to feed the animals.
3. MyPlanet
An amazing way to help the local SPCA is to sign up for a MyPlanet card and choose the Lowveld SPCA as your beneficiary. This means that that every time you use your card and swipe it at a participating retailer, the retailer will donate up to 5% of the total purchase price to the SPCA, at no charge to you, the cardholder. Local partners in Nelspruit include Woolworths, Engen, Wimpy, Minuteman Press, Waltons, Spur, Supa Quick and more. Click here to sign up for your card now.
4. Charity Shop
The Lowveld SPCA also has a charity shop which is run from the SPCA premises in Nelspruit. If you have decided that it is time for a spring clean, then this is the place to bring all the goods that you no longer use. Clothing, books, dvd’s, kitchen equipment, appliances and so much more! All proceeds from sales go towards the Lowveld SPCA. The SPCA will even come to your house and pick up the goods for you, what an easy way to do you part!
