Local is Lekker | Bands & Musicians
The Pub in Nelspruit recently hosted Local is Lekker, an exciting performance by some of Nelspruit’s most talented local bands and musicians.
Local bank managers, architects and marketing managers by day, rocking musicians by night – the enthusiastic crowd were entertained by all sorts of local musicians from those who are already well known to some new, up and coming musicians.
Here’s ShowMe Nelspruit’s guide to our local talents:
The Plain Janes are the new kids on the block, this mom, daughter and aunt backtrack trio sing a great selection of songs from the 80’s that both the young and not so young crowd will enjoy. They are easy on the eye and their no fuss approach makes them the perfect choice for weddings. Our overall rating 4/5.
Ian is rumoured to be a local architect but by the warm reception he received at The Pub you would think he spends a great deal of time there. When Ian starts to perform you will understand why he is so well liked. Much like Robbie Wessels, Ian performs both Afrikaans and English songs with aplomb. With his guitar and bekfluitjie, Ian is a true entertainer and we give him a overall rating of 4/5. We think he is well suited for pubs, small parties and private events.
The Acoustics are an established local band consisting of Sally-Ann, Ryan, and Sakkie. They all have normal day jobs but it’s their simple love for music that makes them stand out. While they perform a wide range of covers from REM, Metallica, Creedence Clearwater Revival and the Rolling Stones, their passion really starts to ooze when they perform their own original songs. We gave them a overall rating of 3/5. Their local fan base and great support from the crowd make them an ideal band for an opening act at any musical event as well as pub regulars.
Even though Brian is the local Capitec bank manager, he is not your ordinary banker. With a wide and popular selection of songs, he entertained the crowd with more than just good music and funny jokes. He even managed to promote The Pub’s drink special while singing songs like “Ironic,” “Go and close the curtain,” and “Free falling.” Overall rating 3/5, perfectly suited to the local pub and restaurant scene.
Gibraltar are the old rock and blues men of the Nelspruit music scene. Playing for more than 20 years, Gibralter have certainly still got what it takes to get the crowd on their feet and prove that they are still very young at heart! This band exudes an immense amount of musical talent and experience, a definite must see if you haven’t already. Overall rating 5/5, an absolutely great sound making them ideal for any occasion, be it weddings, events, pubs, or small parties.
Voetstoots is an Afrikaans rock band. They are a group of young guys that have a modern rock sound. A group of very talented guitarists and score extra points from us simply because they have a violin in the band. Voetstoots would make a great band for many of the local events and festivals, we gave them an overall rating of 4/5.
At the end of the evening, local is truly lekker! Suppor local musicians for your next event or party. After all, there’s nothing better than live music is there!
