Mossel Bay, situated half way between Cape Town and Port Elizabeth, is the Garden Route’s activity destination that offers something for every member of the family. With sunny weather all year round, 60 km of pristine beaches, including two seasonal Blue Flag beaches, safe warm water, rewarding surf and deep sea fishing, boating, diving, surfing, water slides and rock pools, this a mecca for all water activities.

For those who are not water babies, don’t worry. Pinnacle point is a top international golf course and the Mossel Bay Golf Club is also in the top 100 courses in S.A. For adrenalin junkies, shark cage diving, skydiving and sand boarding are all on offer. If you like to be active, then Mossel Bay provides direct access to the natural playground of the Outeniqua Mountains, well known for 4×4 routes, cycling, hiking and horse trails. For those who like wildlife, there are a number of malaria free game reserves offering the big 5, prolific birdlife and just the opportunity to relax in nature. There is also a wealth of marine life that can be seen in the bay with professional tour operators.

Mossel Bay is something of a cultural nexus, too, being both the place at which modern human behaviour emerged some 165,000 years ago, and the place at which (in 1488) Bartolomeu Dias and his crew became the first European navigators to land on South African soil – which is why the local Dias Museum Complex (home to the ancient Post Office Tree) is one of the country’s most important cultural attractions. You can also enjoy an historical town walk exploring up to 68 buildings of interest and a true cultural exchange with the locals on a professionally guided township tour.

If you feel lucky, then the Garden Route Casino is calling you. There is excellent shopping therapy, including the very interesting art and craft centre that supports local artists.
