#WalkKnysna campaign for Tourism Month launched
Knysna & Partners launched its #WalkKnysna campaign for Tourism Month with a very informative walk along Swartvlei beach to Gericke’s Point on Saturday 9 September.
Walkers were guided by Mark Dixon of Garden Route Trail who is a wealth of information about the intertidal zone and rock pools of Gericke’s Point and the aquatic organisms living here.
The second walk, a fascinating tour of the Rastafarian Community, took place on Tuesday 12 September and was thoroughly enjoyed by an enthusiastic group who had never been to Judah Square before. The tour included a visit to the community’s Educare Centre which accommodates over 40 pre-school children from the area.
The next walk, on Thursday, 21 September is a forest walk with Meagan Vermaas of Forest Guided Tours who will guide walkers along the Jubilee Creek Waterfall Route, a total distance (there and back) of 3,6 km. There is no charge for the walk and entrance to Jubilee Creek is free, courtesy of SANParks for Tourism Month.
Please email to book your place as numbers are strictly limited by SANParks. Meet at the Jubilee Creek picnic site and bring a picnic to enjoy after the walk!
The pen-ultimate walk on Tuesday 26 September, is a guided tour of Smutville township in Sedgefield with local guides Michelle Lencoe from Lithemba Crafts & Tours, and Pam Snyman of Up Close and Personal Tours. You’ll be able to see the community’s unique arts and crafts, and experience their warmth & hospitality. Meet at Masithandane at 10:00. There is no charge for the walk, but donations such as fruit for Little Teddies nursery school, and sanitary pads and toiletries for the ‘Keep a girl in school’ campaign will be welcome.
Booking is essential – email
Chairperson of Knysna & Partners said: “We are having lots of fun being tourists in our own town for Tourism Month and supporting South African Tourism’s campaign, #WeDoTourism. We look forward to seeing you on the next walk!”
The Knysna & Partners Tourism Month programme also includes two Heritage Day festivals on 24 September – the Sedgefield Craft Beer & Braai Festival at the Sedgefield Village Green, and the Annual DCT Heritage Dam Event at Dam se Bos Sports Ground.
