Lucky escape from steep drop
SEDGEFIELD NEWS – A broken barrier and flattened vegetation were the only signs of a near tragedy which took place on Friday, January 31 at the mouth of the Swartvlei in Sedgefield.
Lieutenant Sharon Simons, Knysna SAPS liaison officer, says the 19-year-old driver of a white Ford Ranger allegedly lost control of the vehicle in Kingfisher Drive, Sedgefield before it careened down a steep embankment.
“According to the accident report the vehicle also rolled,” says Simons. Despite the vehicle being severely damaged, the young driver only sustained minor injuries.
Sedgefield Towing & Recovery Panelbeaters confirmed that they had recovered the Ford Ranger from where it had landed after plummeting down the embankment.
Following the accident, several rumours about the cause of the incident started circulating. The driver declined an invitation to tell her story, saying that she wanted to settle the matter with her insurance company before making a statement to the media.
Simons says that no case regarding the accident was opened at the police.
