Fashion Design Training Studio opens its doors
Creative people who have skills or aptitude in clothing designs, and want to further their talents in this specialised field, will be delighted to learn that the Fashion Design Training Studio is opening its doors in the George region.
Mariëtte Hankey, an experienced lecturer, has for many years designed and supplied clothing under her own label Martezi.
This experienced designer will be interviewing prospective students in the coming months, as she is scheduled to open her own training facility at the beginning of 2012. An overriding passion for the craft has carried her through her National Diploma at the Technikon of Pretoria, right through to lecturing at two different private fashion schools. For many years she owned the Sewing Box Design Studio, supplying top designs to fashion lovers looking for something unique.
“Students will be interviewed as part of a selection process, to establish their levels of skills and competence. The Studio will present dynamic, practical and inspiring training. “Our course consists of the classic subjects of Design, Pattern making, Garment Construction, Textile Theory as well as the skills and techniques of couture sewing. Sewing is the most important skill for Fashion Design,” explained Hankey, who enjoys staying abreast with the latest fashion trends, but also appreciates classic designed garments.
“We offer several options – an intensive six month course – which will equip you with the skills to start working immediately. Then there is also the choice between a one-year or two-year course. Our training is dynamic, practical and inspiring. We will equip our students to discover their unique talent and develop their signature fashion style, through our high quality education. We have an understanding of the market and customers lifestyle requirement.
“In the course of the training we will encourage students to be unique in their designs. We want to be makers of fashion, not the followers of fashion. A fashion show will be held showcasing the work of the students,” said Hankey.
At the end of the six month course, students will have a portfolio filled with designs and a thorough, first-hand knowledge of sewing. There are several career opportunities including: being a Fashion Designer; Pattern Maker; Pattern Grader; Costume Designer; Fashion Illustrator; Fashion Stylist; Fashion Co-ordinater and Buyer. The Studio is strategically positioned to serve the entire Garden Route. If you wish to enroll for the 2012 intake contact Mariëtte Hankey at 082 892 1502.
The Martezi clothing range is currently available at the Lavender Breeze in the Wilderness Village.
